In a major reform to ensure transparency, the State government will introduce a new admission system for the four-year B.Sc. Nursing course starting 2025-26. For the first time, admissions will be based on ranks secured in the Andhra Pradesh Nursing Common Entrance Test (APNCET), conducted by Dr NTR University of Health Sciences.

Health Minister Y Satya Kumar Yadav reviewed the process with officials and approved amendments to GO No. 145 (1998) and GO No. 41 (2023). Until now, admissions were based on EAPCET ranks and intermediate marks. Under the new system, only APNCET-qualified candidates will be eligible for both convenor and management quota seats.

Previously, private nursing colleges admitted students under the management quota, often leading to allegations of irregularities. Now, even management quota admissions will be handled by Dr NTR University through online counselling overseen by a university-appointed committee.

“There will be no room for malpractice, and talented students will secure seats in both government and private institutions,” the minister asserted.

The State has 13,726 B.Sc. Nursing seats. In 2024-25, 6,441 were filled under the convenor quota and 5,144 under the management quota, while 2,141 seats remained vacant. Reservation rules will continue for the convenor quota, while the management quota will remain unreserved.
