The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Committee on Amenities has suggested raising the minimum pension for former MLAs from ₹30,000 to ₹50,000 per month, with the upper limit proposed at ₹70,000.
The committee has also recommended that retired legislators be granted medical benefits equivalent to those received by All India Service Officers.
Acknowledging that the last revision of salaries and allowances occurred in 2016, the committee urged the government to reassess and adjust these figures in line with the current inflationary trends.
The committee’s findings and proposals were presented in the Assembly on Saturday.
The meeting, held on September 25 and chaired by Assembly Speaker Ch Ayyanna Patrudu, focused on reviewing the facilities available to both current and former legislators.
The Speaker emphasized that, considering the state’s financial constraints, only essential amenities should be proposed for government approval at this time.
The committee also observed that other states offer higher pensions to their former legislators—₹70,000 in Manipur, ₹60,000 in Punjab and Arunachal Pradesh, and ₹50,000 in Haryana and Telangana.
