Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials on Monday apprehended an Assistant Engineer of the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department in Allagadda of Nandyal district, while allegedly accepting a bribe.
The accused, Dudekula Dastagiri, was caught red-handed at his office after demanding `15,000 from M Ramesh of Cholemarri village of Rudravaram mandal. The bribe was reportedly sought to process an application for road cutting permission to lay optical fibre cables. Officials said the complainant had previously paid `40,000, but the engineer insisted on the remaining amount and threatened to withhold the file if it was not paid.
Following the complaint, the ACB registered a case under Crime No. 5/RCT-KUR/2025, Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. A trap was laid, and Dastagiri was arrested while accepting the bribe.
He was produced before the ACB special court in Kurnool. Authorities urged citizens to report corruption via the ACB helpline 1064, mobile number 9440440057, or email complaints-acb@ap.gov.in.
