Union Minister of State for Railways Somanna announced that Andhra Pradesh has received railway projects worth ₹9,470 crore in the financial year 2024–25, marking a major boost to the state’s infrastructure development.
Speaking during his visit to Sri Sathya Sai district, the minister said that eight Vande Bharat Express trains are currently operating in Andhra Pradesh. Notably, he highlighted that Hindupur has become the first taluka-level station in India to get a Vande Bharat halt, calling it a special gift from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the people of the region.
Vande Bharat Halt Inaugurated at Hindupur
On Saturday, Somanna inaugurated the halt of the Yesvantpur–Hyderabad Vande Bharat Express at Hindupur, along with MP B.K. Parthasarathy. Earlier, he also inaugurated a newly developed railway station at Chakarlapalli, built at a cost of ₹4 crore, in Somandepalli mandal. State BC Welfare Minister S. Savita was present at the event.
Major Railway Expansion Underway
The Union Minister revealed that 1,560 km of new railway lines are currently under construction across Andhra Pradesh. In addition, the Railways have completed 717 Road Over Bridges (ROBs) and Road Under Bridges (RUBs) to improve safety and connectivity.
Meanwhile, 73 railway stations in the state are undergoing redevelopment under the Amrit Bharat Station Development Scheme. These include key stations such as Tirupati, Nellore, Visakhapatnam, Hindupur, and Prashanti Nilayam.
Focus on Amaravati and State Development
Somanna said Andhra Pradesh is witnessing rapid progress under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. Furthermore, he confirmed that the Railways have allocated additional funds for the development of the state capital Amaravati, which will further strengthen transport infrastructure.
He added that the significant railway investment will accelerate economic growth and improve connectivity across Andhra Pradesh.
