The hit Malayalam superhero film Lokah is set to return with a second installment, actor Dulquer Salmaan confirmed on Saturday.
Production house Wayfarer Films shared a video on X (formerly Twitter), announcing:
“Beyond myths. Beyond legends. A new chapter begins. #LokahChapter2 Starring Tovino Thomas. Written & Directed by Dominic Arun. Produced by Wayfarer Films.”
In the teaser titled ‘When Legends Chill: Michael and Charlie’, Tovino Thomas is seen as the folkloric character Chaathan, nicknamed Michael. He appears alongside Dulquer Salmaan’s Charlie Odiyan. The two characters, who appeared in cameo roles in the first film, are shown hanging out and discussing the future of the Lokah Cinematic Universe.
Michael approaches Charlie, explaining that his brother has been released and seeks Charlie’s assistance. This scene hints at the potential storyline for Chapter 2. Fans have already drawn comparisons between the duo and Marvel’s Deadpool and Wolverine. One fan commented, “Michael X Charlie combo is going to be insane in Lokah Chapter 2.”
New hero universe
The original Lokah, released on August 28, introduced a new superhero universe in Malayalam cinema. It was directed by Dominic Arun. Dulquer Salmaan appeared in the end credits as the ‘nemesis’. Meanwhile, Tovino Thomas made a cameo in the second half, coming to Chandra’s rescue, portrayed by Kalyani Priyadarshan.
The first film’s ensemble cast also includes Naslen as Sunny, Sandy as Inspector Nachiyappa Gowda. Other cast members include Chandu as Venu, Arun Kurian as Nigel, along with Shanti Balachandran and Sharafudheen. Dulquer Salmaan produces the franchise under his banner Wayfarer Films.
Despite competition from Mohanlal’s Hridayapoorvam, Lokah has emerged as a crowd favorite. It grossed over ₹200 crore worldwide within 13 days of release. With the announcement of the second chapter, fans are eagerly awaiting the continuation of the superhero saga.
