The release of Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay’s much-awaited film Jananayagan has taken a crucial turn. After days of uncertainty, the Madras High Court’s single bench issued clear directions to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The order brought temporary relief to fans but also opened the door to a fresh legal battle.
High Court Questions CBFC Delay
The single bench strongly questioned the CBFC for delaying the censor certificate. The court asked why the board sent the film to a review committee again after earlier agreeing to grant a U/A certificate. The bench made it clear that such delays were unnecessary and unjustified.
As a result, the court directed the CBFC to issue the U/A certificate immediately. The judge stressed that the board must act without further delay, as it had already assessed the film earlier.
Censor Board Challenges the Order
However, the situation changed quickly. Soon after the single bench passed its order, the CBFC approached the division bench of the Madras High Court. The board filed an appeal challenging the directive to issue the certificate.
Now, a division bench led by the Chief Justice will hear the matter later today. This move has once again placed the film’s release in suspense.
Sankranthi Release Plans Hit
Director H. Vinod’s Jananayagan was scheduled for a worldwide release on January 9 as a special Sankranthi treat. Unfortunately, the makers postponed the release at the last moment due to the absence of a censor certificate.
Because of this sudden delay, Vijay’s fans expressed disappointment across Tamil Nadu and overseas markets. Many celebrations were halted, and theatres remained uncertain about screening schedules.
Fans Await Final Verdict
Meanwhile, the single bench order has revived hopes among fans and trade circles. The industry now closely watches the division bench proceedings. The final verdict will decide whether Jananayagan can reach theatres without further hurdles.
