BCCI Ends Deal with Dream11, Hunts for New Sponsor Ahead of Asia Cup

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially ended its association with Dream11, just weeks before the Asia Cup T20 kicks off in the UAE. Secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed on Monday that the fantasy sports company will no longer serve as the Indian team’s lead sponsor, with discussions already underway to find a replacement.

Three-Year, ₹358-Crore Deal Cut Short

Dream11 had signed a ₹358 crore, three-year contract in July 2023, stepping in after Byju’s exit. The brand also gained visibility in the IPL, with franchise tie-ups and a stint as title sponsor in 2020 following Vivo’s withdrawal. However, matters changed swiftly after the passage of the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025, which bans money-based fantasy contests.

Law Leaves No Room for Continuation

“Under the new legislation, it will be difficult for BCCI to continue with Dream11 or any other similar gaming companies. We are deliberating on an alternative,” Saikia said in a statement to IANS. He added that while Dream11 will not face penalties—thanks to a protective clause in its agreement—the sponsorship vacuum comes at a crucial time, with the Asia Cup only two weeks away.

Next Steps: Tender or Stop-Gap Solution?

When asked about floating a new tender, Saikia said that the board has not yet finalised its plan. “There will be some vacancy in the sponsorship slot… whether it will be a replacement or a temporary arrangement, discussions are on. If something develops in the next 15–20 days, fine; otherwise, we’ll see how it progresses,” he noted.

My11Circle Deal Also Under the Scanner

The new law has triggered doubt over other fantasy sports tie-ups as well. My11Circle, which pays ₹125 crore annually as the official fantasy partner of the IPL, may also see its deal reviewed. With both leading fantasy platforms hit by government restrictions, the BCCI is now bracing for a major sponsorship shake-up ahead of busy international and domestic cricket seasons
