N. Chandrababu Naidu will visit the newly formed Markapuram district today, marking his first tour to the district after its official formation. The visit has drawn significant attention, as the Chief Minister is set to take a crucial step toward completing the long-pending Veligonda Project. He will lay the foundation stone for the feeder canal works estimated at ₹456 crore, a move expected to benefit thousands of farmers in the western parts of Prakasam district.
This development carries emotional and economic value for the people of the region. For decades, residents of western Prakasam have awaited the completion of the Veligonda Project. Now, with fresh momentum from the state government, hopes have risen once again.
Focus on Irrigation and Regional Growth
The feeder canal plays a key role in ensuring water distribution to drought-prone mandals. Once completed, it will strengthen irrigation facilities, improve agricultural productivity, and enhance drinking water supply in several villages. Moreover, officials believe the project will reduce dependency on groundwater and stabilise rural livelihoods.
According to the official schedule, the Chief Minister will depart from Amaravati at 12:00 PM after attending Assembly sessions. He will arrive at Gantavanipalem in Markapuram district at 12:40 PM. Shortly after, at 12:50 PM, he will perform the bhoomi puja and formally launch the feeder canal works. He will then review the progress of the broader Veligonda Project on-site.
Public Meeting at Praja Vedika
After inspecting the project works, Chandrababu Naidu will travel to Markapuram town, reaching at 2:10 PM. At 2:30 PM, he will participate in a public meeting organised at Praja Vedika on Tarlupadu Road. During the meeting, he is expected to outline the government’s development vision for the newly carved district and reiterate his commitment to irrigation and infrastructure growth.
Party leaders and local officials have made elaborate arrangements for the visit. Large crowds are anticipated, especially from farming communities that see the feeder canal as a lifeline.
Later in the evening, at 5:20 PM, the Chief Minister will return to Amaravati.
With this visit, the government signals renewed focus on completing critical infrastructure projects. As a result, expectations are high that the Veligonda works will move forward at a faster pace, bringing long-awaited relief to the people of western Prakasam.
