A shocking murder case has come to light in Hyderabad’s Nallakunta area, where a man allegedly poured petrol on his sleeping wife and set her on fire, leading to her death. The incident occurred within the limits of the Nallakunta police station and has sent shockwaves across the city.
Years of Suspicion Led to Brutal Crime
Police officials revealed that the accused, Venkateshwarlu alias Elias Venkatesh, had been harbouring suspicion over his wife Triveni (26) for several years. The couple, natives of Huzurnagar in Suryapet district, fell in love and married ten years ago. They have two children — an eight-year-old son and a six-year-old daughter.
After moving to Hyderabad for employment, frequent disputes arose between the couple. Due to alleged harassment, Triveni had earlier filed a complaint at Saroornagar police station, following which a case was registered.
Incident Took Place at Midnight
According to police, Venkatesh left the family eight months ago following intensified arguments. However, he returned two months ago, claiming that he had changed. On the night of the 23rd, he allegedly woke up his son and took him outside the house.
Later, he entered the house alone, poured petrol that he had arranged in advance on Triveni, and set her ablaze before fleeing the scene.
Victim Succumbs to Injuries
Hearing her mother’s screams, the daughter ran outside and alerted neighbours. Locals rushed to the spot, doused the flames, and informed the police. Triveni was shifted to Gandhi Hospital, where she succumbed to burn injuries on the 24th while undergoing treatment.
Accused Arrested and Remanded
Police traced the accused to Aminpur, arrested him, and produced him before the court. He was sent to judicial remand on Friday.
The case details were shared during a press conference by Eastern Zone Additional DCP Narsayya, along with OU ACP Jagan and Inspector Maruti Prasad. Police stated that further investigation is underway.
