Anchor Rashmi Gautam has expressed strong criticism of Indians protesting the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. In a series of social media posts, she urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to send such individuals to Iran, suggesting they could fight there instead. Rashmi’s comments sparked widespread debate online, drawing attention to the role of radical ideologies in India.
Protests erupted in cities including Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Lucknow, and across Jammu & Kashmir, where Shia Muslims took to the streets, chanting slogans against the United States and Israel. The escalating conflict between Iran and Israel in West Asia is causing global concern, affecting not only the two nations but also Gulf countries such as the UAE, Qatar, and Bahrain. Thousands of Indian expatriates living there are reportedly anxious, with flights grounded and many stranded abroad.
Rashmi highlighted India’s tradition of unity in diversity and respect for all religions. She stressed that radical thinking promoting war should not be tolerated within the country. “Those with radical mindsets can go to Iran and fight for their own people,” she said. She pointed out that India already faces internal challenges such as poverty, caste issues, and illiteracy, and that religious extremism only worsens these problems.
The anchor further emphasised that India’s goal should be progress and development. She criticised societies with radical ideologies for practices such as child marriage, contrasting them with India’s independent and progressive values. Rashmi concluded by reaffirming pride in India’s secular and democratic principles while warning against the spread of extremist thought.
