The Union government’s revised rates under GST 2.0 took effect on September 22, but complaints are emerging that some traders are still charging consumers at old prices.
In response, Andhra Pradesh GST officials have issued key instructions and released helpline numbers for public grievances. Consumers can lodge complaints by calling 8712631284 or the toll-free number 1967, officials said. They also assured that the identity of complainants will remain confidential.
The revised GST rates were designed to bring relief to the middle class by lowering the cost of several goods. While many prices have dropped since GST 2.0 came into force, officials noted that a few businesses continue to ignore the new rates.
To increase awareness, GST authorities are conducting public outreach programmes at the village and mandal levels. These sessions explain the rate revisions and highlight goods that saw price reductions under GST 2.0.
The Union government has also launched its own toll-free and WhatsApp helplines for direct complaints against violators. It may be recalled that the new-gen GST reforms, the biggest since the new taxing system came into force in 2017, revised slabs, subjecting them to 5% and 18% taxes. On the flipside, ultra-luxury goods will be subjected to a 40% tax. On several essentials, the GST was brought down to zero, providing relief to the Indian middle-class.
