CPI leader Narayana sharply criticised cinema theatres and multiplexes for exploiting moviegoers. He said high ticket prices and costly snacks burden common people. He urged governments to intervene and regulate theatres immediately.
Narayana spoke to the media about the piracy of Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Akhanda 2 on its release day. He questioned how the film leaked online while the accused, iBomma Ravi, remained in police custody. Narayana said harsh punishment alone will not stop piracy.
He argued that piracy grows due to systemic failures. He added that blaming one individual does not solve the issue. Narayana said theatre owners focus only on profits by raising ticket prices.
According to him, high prices push audiences away from theatres. Many viewers turn to pirated platforms due to financial pressure. He warned that cinema halls will continue to lose audiences unless governments control ticket pricing and fix loopholes.
