Amaravati, December 16:
The Andhra Pradesh government has launched India’s first integrated Aviation, Aerospace and Defence (AAD) EduCity near the upcoming Bhogapuram International Airport. This landmark project aims to build a strong aviation talent base and meet the rising global demand for skilled professionals.

GMR–MANSAS Aviation EduCity Takes Shape
The GMR–MANSAS Aviation EduCity will come up on nearly 136 acres of land. The state government signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the GMR Group and the MANSAS Trust in Visakhapatnam. Education and IT Minister Nara Lokesh led the event and outlined the project’s vision.
He said India’s aviation growth depends not only on aircraft and airports but also on skilled people. Therefore, the EduCity will focus on training, research and industry exposure under one roof.
Addressing the Growing Skills Gap
India’s aviation sector is growing at a rapid pace. Passenger traffic is expected to reach 700 million per year by 2030. At the same time, the aircraft fleet may rise to nearly 1,700 planes. However, the industry faces a shortage of trained pilots, engineers and airport staff.
Currently, India produces a limited number of aviation and aerospace experts. As a result, the skills gap continues to widen. The Bhogapuram EduCity aims to close this gap through structured and job-ready training.

A Fully Integrated Education Model
Unlike traditional colleges, the EduCity will follow an integrated model. It will host international universities, DGCA- and EASA-aligned certification courses, and advanced research centres. In addition, it will support startups, innovation labs and student housing.
Because of its location near the airport, students will gain real-time training and hands-on experience. This approach mirrors successful global aviation hubs.
Vision for Global Leadership
Minister Nara Lokesh said Andhra Pradesh wants to train talent not only for India but also for the world. The goal is to make the state a key supplier of skilled aviation professionals.
The MANSAS Trust has provided land for the project as part of a philanthropic effort. The government plans to develop core infrastructure within 12 months. With this initiative, Andhra Pradesh aims to lead India’s aviation education and innovation journey.
