A shocking incident of sexual harassment on a government bus in Karnataka has come to light, highlighting the courage of a young woman who refused to stay silent. The victim not only confronted the accused on the spot but also recorded the incident on video and shared it on social media. The video has since gone viral.
Victim Records Accused, Video Goes Viral
According to the victim, the incident occurred while she was travelling to Ankola along with her brother. She explained that her brother occupied a window seat, while she sat beside him. Since the adjacent seat was vacant, a man, believed to be around 28 years old, came and sat next to her.
As the journey continued, the woman fell asleep. However, she woke up to find the man touching her inappropriately. Shocked and shaken at first, she soon gathered courage and confronted him strongly. When he refused to move away, she shouted at him and physically pushed him out of the seat.
Accused Tries to Flee, Gets Detained
Later, when the bus stopped, the accused attempted to flee by covering his face. At that moment, the woman began recording the video and confronted him again. In the footage, she can be seen asking him to face the camera while he denies the allegations.
She stated that she wanted the video to reach the accused’s family members so they would know about his actions. Her bold response has earned widespread praise on social media.
Police Register Case After Video Tagged
After the video surfaced and the victim tagged the police, Ankola police registered a case. Superintendent of Police M.N. Deepan confirmed that strict action would be taken based on the video evidence. The investigation into the incident is currently underway.
‘Don’t Stay Silent,’ Victim Appeals to Women
Importantly, the woman used the platform to send a strong message to women and young girls. She urged them not to remain silent if they face harassment. “Raise your voice, shout for help, and expose such behaviour,” she said. She added that silence only encourages offenders.
The incident has reignited discussions on women’s safety in public transport and the importance of standing up against harassment.
