The arrest of a BJP MLA’s son in a drug case has triggered widespread debate in Hyderabad and Andhra Pradesh. Sudheer Reddy, son of Jammalamadugu MLA Adinarayana Reddy, landed in police custody after a surprise anti-drug operation in Hyderabad’s Nanakramguda area.
Telangana Police carried out the operation through the Eagle Team, a special unit formed to tackle drug abuse. The team acted on credible intelligence inputs. Officials received information about a drug party taking place at a private location. Based on this tip-off, the Eagle Team conducted a late-night raid.
Caught During Eagle Team Raid
During the raid, police found several people at the venue. Officers caught Sudheer Reddy at the spot. Police officials stated that he was allegedly consuming drugs at the time of the raid. They conducted an immediate drug test as per protocol. The test result came back positive.
After confirming drug use, police took Sudheer Reddy into custody. Officers then shifted him to the Narsingi Police Station for further legal procedures. The police registered a case under the relevant sections of the law and began questioning him.
Probe Widens After Arrest
Following the arrest, police reportedly shifted Sudheer Reddy to a de-addiction centre. Authorities said the step was part of the standard process. Meanwhile, investigators expanded the probe. They are now checking whether he had links to a larger drug network.
Police teams are examining phone records and financial details. They are also questioning others who were present at the location. Officials said they want to identify the source of the drugs and possible suppliers operating in the area.
Political Background Draws Attention
The case gained attention due to Sudheer Reddy’s political background. His father, Adinarayana Reddy, is a sitting BJP MLA from Kadapa district. He earlier served as a minister in the TDP government. Opposition leaders reacted sharply to the incident. They demanded strict action without political interference.
Police officials clarified their stand clearly. They said the law applies equally to everyone. They also stated that the investigation will continue without pressure.
The incident has once again raised concerns over rising drug abuse in urban areas. Authorities said they will intensify checks across Hyderabad to curb the drug menace.
