The gas blowout at an ONGC well in Irusumanda village of Konaseema district continues to pose a serious challenge, as flames have been burning for the fourth consecutive day. Despite sustained efforts by emergency teams, the situation is yet to come fully under control.
The blowout occurred on the 5th of this month and initially triggered a massive fire, creating panic among local residents. Although the intensity of the flames has reduced over the past few days, the fire has not been completely extinguished. ONGC officials confirmed that the risk remains high due to continuous gas leakage from the well.
Meanwhile, specialized response teams have moved nearly 10 meters closer to the accident site to intensify containment operations. Firefighters and technical experts are carrying out round-the-clock water spraying to cool the area and suppress the flames. In addition, safety protocols are being strictly followed to prevent further escalation.
Officials stated that controlling such blowouts is a complex process and may take several more days. They added that constant monitoring is underway to ensure the safety of personnel and nearby villages. Local authorities have also advised residents to remain cautious until the situation is fully resolved.
The incident has once again raised concerns over safety measures at oil and gas installations, even as ONGC continues its efforts to bring the Irusumanda blowout under complete control.
