US President Donald Trump has once again sparked global attention with a controversial social media post. On his platform Truth Social, Trump declared himself the “acting president of Venezuela,” triggering widespread debate and political discussion across the world.
Trump shared an edited image resembling a Wikipedia page, along with his official photograph. In the post, he described himself as the 45th and 47th President of the United States, stating that he assumed office on January 20, 2025. The image also claimed that he had taken charge as Venezuela’s interim president from January this year. Soon after, the post went viral and drew strong reactions online.
Background of the Venezuela Political Crisis
The post comes amid serious political developments in Venezuela. Recently, the United States carried out airstrikes in Venezuela, citing efforts to curb drug trafficking. During these operations, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores were arrested and taken to the United States. Authorities later confirmed that they are facing legal action related to narco-terrorism charges.
Following these events, Delcy Rodríguez assumed charge as Venezuela’s interim president. The Venezuelan defence ministry announced that she would remain in power for 90 days. However, uncertainty continues over who will take permanent leadership of the country.
Trump’s Statement Adds to Global Uncertainty
Although there were expectations that opposition leader and Nobel laureate Machado might take charge, Trump reportedly expressed doubts about her public support. Amid this uncertainty, Trump’s declaration that he is the interim president has intensified global discussion.
Trump stated that the United States is acting in the interest of the Venezuelan people. He claimed that the US would oversee Venezuela’s administration until a safe, just, and orderly transition of power takes place. However, his claim has no official confirmation under Venezuelan law.
Trump’s latest post has once again highlighted his unconventional communication style. While supporters view it as a bold statement, critics see it as provocative. As the situation continues to evolve, the international community remains watchful of developments in Venezuela.
