Toronto: Canadian police have made a major breakthrough in the Canada biggest gold heist case that shocked the nation three years ago. Investigators recently arrested a key accused, Arslan Chaudhary, at Toronto Pearson International Airport after he arrived from Dubai. Police confirmed that Chaudhary had no fixed address and took him into custody immediately upon landing.
Heist That Shook Canada
The incident took place in April 2023, when a cargo flight from Switzerland landed at Toronto airport. One container carried nearly 400 kilograms of gold, including about 6,600 gold bars, along with 2.5 million Canadian dollars in cash. At that time, the total value stood at nearly 20 million Canadian dollars. Authorities stored the container in an airport warehouse before transporting it to a bank. However, when police checked the facility the next day, the gold and cash had vanished.
Inside Job Uncovered
During the investigation, police discovered that warehouse staff used forged documents to remove the container. As a result, the case quickly turned into Canada’s largest gold robbery. Officers identified the involvement of multiple suspects linked to the warehouse operations at the time of the theft.
Indian Nationals Under Scanner
Among the accused, Indian nationals Simranpreet Panesar and Parampal Sidhu worked at the warehouse during the incident. Police arrested Sidhu earlier, while Panesar remains absconding. According to investigators, Panesar currently resides in India, and efforts are underway to bring him to justice.
Gold Still Missing
So far, Canadian authorities have failed to recover the stolen gold. However, they have seized a portion of the missing cash. Police continue to coordinate with international agencies, hoping to trace the remaining assets and arrest all accused.
Meanwhile, officials have reiterated that the probe remains active, and further arrests are likely as the investigation progresses.
