The famed Godavari hospitality once again grabbed attention after a couple from Narsipatnam near Visakhapatnam hosted an extraordinary feast for their son-in-law. Marking his first Sankranthi after marriage, the family arranged a grand spread of 290 varieties of traditional dishes, setting a new local benchmark and sparking widespread discussion.
The rare celebration showcased how deeply festivals connect emotions, traditions, and family bonds in Andhra Pradesh. As a result, the event quickly became a talking point across the region.
A Feast Planned With Love and Meaning
The hosts, Nalam Ramesh Kumar and Kalavathi, reside in Shanthi Nagar, Narsipatnam municipality. Recently, they married off their daughter Lakshmi Navya to Sriharsha. Since Sankranthi holds special importance for newly married couples, the parents decided to make their son-in-law’s first festival truly unforgettable.
Interestingly, the idea behind the number of dishes drew attention. Sriharsha is 29 years old, and the family added a zero beside his age to plan 290 different food items. Therefore, the feast turned into both a symbolic and emotional gesture.
Sriharsha Left Amazed by the Spread
When Sriharsha arrived for the Sankranthi lunch, he was visibly stunned. In front of him stood hundreds of dishes, mostly traditional sweets and flour-based delicacies, carefully prepared over several days. Seeing such an elaborate arrangement left him speechless and deeply touched.
Meanwhile, relatives and neighbours gathered to witness the rare display of hospitality. Many praised the family for preserving cultural values and celebrating relationships with such warmth.
Breaking Previous Records
Earlier this Sankranthi, a similar feast in Tenali of Guntur district, where a son-in-law was served 158 dishes, had made headlines. However, the Narsipatnam couple went a step further. By arranging 290 dishes, they comfortably surpassed the earlier number.
Consequently, the event gained more attention and admiration. Locals described it as a true reflection of Godavari people’s love for food and guests.
A Celebration of Tradition and Emotion
Although times have changed, such gestures prove that festival traditions remain strong. Events like this not only celebrate Sankranthi but also strengthen family relationships. Moreover, they highlight the cultural richness of Andhra Pradesh.
Ultimately, the 290-dish feast served to Sriharsha stood as a symbol of affection, pride, and timeless hospitality. As Sankranthi celebrations continue across the state, this unique event from Visakhapatnam will remain memorable for its scale, sentiment, and tradition.
