ChatGPT, the popular AI platform by OpenAI, is set to test advertisements in the coming weeks. The company announced this move to manage rapidly rising operational and infrastructure costs.
Despite OpenAI’s valuation touching nearly $500 billion, expenses continue to increase. High computing demands and server maintenance costs have pushed the company to explore new revenue options. As a result, limited advertising will help support long-term sustainability.
Ads Will Not Affect Responses or Privacy
OpenAI clarified that advertisements will appear only for free and lower-tier subscription users. Initially, the testing phase will begin in the United States. However, Pro and Enterprise users will remain ad-free, ensuring an uninterrupted experience.
Although ChatGPT serves nearly one billion users worldwide, only a small share subscribes to paid plans. Therefore, ads offer an alternative income source without raising subscription prices. At the same time, OpenAI assured users that ads will not influence AI responses.
Importantly, the company stated that user data will not be shared with advertisers. Transparency, trust, and user experience will remain top priorities during the testing phase. OpenAI also plans to closely monitor feedback before making any long-term decisions.
