As election heat rises in Tamil Nadu, the AIADMK has unveiled a series of eye-catching welfare promises aimed at attracting every section of voters. On the occasion of M.G. Ramachandran’s birth anniversary in Chennai, party general secretary and former Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami announced what he described as a people-centric roadmap if the AIADMK returns to power.
Addressing party cadres after paying floral tributes to MGR at the party headquarters, Palaniswami sharply criticised the ruling DMK government. At the same time, he outlined key assurances that could reshape the political narrative in the state.
₹2,000 Monthly Aid for Women
At the centre of AIADMK’s announcement is direct financial support for women. Palaniswami said every ration card–holding household would receive ₹2,000 per month, credited directly to the woman head’s bank account. This amount is double the ₹1,000 currently offered under the DMK government’s scheme, he noted, adding that the goal is to strengthen household finances and promote economic balance.
Free Bus Travel for Men Too
In a significant expansion of transport welfare, the AIADMK promised to extend free bus travel to men as well. While women already enjoy free bus services in Tamil Nadu, Palaniswami said his party would introduce a similar scheme for male passengers, calling it a “revolution in public transport access”.
‘Amma Illam’ Housing Scheme
The party also announced an ambitious housing plan under the proposed “Amma Illam” scheme. In rural areas, the government would purchase land and construct houses for the poor. In urban regions, land allocation and modern apartment construction are planned. Additionally, concrete houses would be gifted to women from Scheduled Caste families at the time of marriage.
Employment Guarantee and Mobility Support
To support rural labourers, Palaniswami promised to increase workdays under the employment guarantee scheme from 100 to 150 days. He also announced the revival of the “Amma Two-Wheeler Scheme”, under which five lakh women would receive a ₹25,000 subsidy to buy scooters, boosting mobility and self-reliance.
Full Manifesto Coming Soon
Palaniswami said the party’s manifesto committee has gathered public feedback across the state and will soon release a comprehensive manifesto with more announcements. He accused the DMK government of poor governance and rising debt, claiming Tamil Nadu would face an additional burden of about ₹5.5 lakh crore by the end of the current term.
With these promises, the AIADMK has clearly signalled an aggressive push to regain power, setting the stage for an intense electoral battle in Tamil Nadu.
