A 55-year-old security guard named Hari was seriously injured during the Sri Rama Shobha Yatra in Kadapa, raising fresh concerns over firecracker safety at public events. The incident took place at the busy Seven Roads Junction while devotees celebrated the religious procession with fireworks.
Officials confirmed that a firecracker malfunctioned and struck Hari in the abdomen. He collapsed at the spot as people nearby rushed to help. Emergency services shifted him immediately to the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Kadapa. Doctors admitted him to the intensive care unit, where he continues to receive critical treatment.
Eyewitnesses said the fireworks were being burst close to the crowd, leaving little room for safety. The incident created panic for a brief period before police brought the situation under control. The procession later continued under tighter supervision.
Kadapa Mayor and local officials visited the hospital and spoke with doctors. They stressed the urgent need to review firecracker safety rules during public gatherings. Authorities indicated that stricter guidelines may be enforced to avoid such incidents in future religious events.
