Veteran actor Chiranjeevi has spoken publicly for the first time on the casting couch issue, triggering a fresh debate across the film industry and social media. He shared his views during the success meet of his latest film, Mana Shankara Varaprasad, where he addressed concerns raised by artists in recent years.
Speaking at the event, Chiranjeevi described the film industry as a mirror. He said people receive what they give back. According to him, the industry itself does not encourage casting couch practices. He added that if individuals face unpleasant experiences, those incidents remain personal in nature. His remarks quickly spread online and drew strong reactions from several quarters.
Soon after, singer Chinmayi Sripada responded to Chiranjeevi’s comments through social media and public statements. She stated that casting couch practices still exist in the industry. She said some people misuse the term “full commitment” to pressure women. Chinmayi explained that the word carries a different meaning in certain circles and often goes beyond professional expectations.
She also spoke about power imbalance within the industry. According to her, individuals holding influential positions sometimes demand personal favours in exchange for work opportunities. Chinmayi referred to an incident involving a young singer who reportedly faced an attempted assault. She cited this example to underline that harassment remains a serious concern.
Chinmayi further said that sexual harassment is not an isolated issue. She stressed that the belief of demanding physical compliance in return for work lies at the heart of the problem. She urged the industry to acknowledge these realities instead of dismissing them as individual experiences.
Meanwhile, Chiranjeevi’s supporters defended his comments. They said he spoke from his personal understanding of the industry. Others, however, felt that his statement overlooked the struggles faced by many women.
As the discussion continues, the contrasting views of Chiranjeevi and Chinmayi have turned into a major talking point online. The issue has reopened conversations about safety, accountability, and ethical practices within the entertainment world. Industry observers believe that such open discussions could push the industry toward stronger safeguards and clearer professional boundaries.
