A tragic incident in Andhra Pradesh’s Sathya Sai district has triggered public outrage after a mother and her newborn died at Padmavathi Hospital, with relatives accusing doctors of gross medical negligence. The incident occurred on Tuesday and quickly escalated into a large protest, as grieving family members and local activists blocked the national highway, demanding justice and strict action against the hospital management.
According to the family, the woman was admitted for delivery, but doctors allegedly failed to provide timely treatment despite repeated requests. Relatives claim the attending physician ignored warning signs and delayed critical medical decisions, which led to the death of both the mother and the newborn. As news spread, locals gathered outside the hospital and later staged a protest on the highway, causing traffic disruptions for several hours.
Police Step In, Doctor Arrested
Following the protest, local police and district officials rushed to the spot to control the situation. Authorities arrested the attending doctor and registered a case based on complaints filed by the victim’s family. Police officials confirmed that they have launched a detailed investigation into the incident and are collecting medical records, staff statements, and CCTV footage from the hospital.
Officials also revealed that Padmavathi Hospital had faced allegations of medical lapses in the past. Investigators are now reviewing earlier complaints to determine whether a pattern of negligence exists. If proven, officials warned that strict legal and administrative action would follow.
Demand for Hospital License Cancellation
Meanwhile, relatives of the deceased and social activists intensified their demands. They called for the permanent cancellation of the hospital’s license, arguing that unsafe medical practices continue to claim innocent lives. Protesters said mere arrests were not enough and urged health authorities to shut down facilities that fail to meet basic standards of care.
Community leaders stated that repeated incidents of alleged negligence have eroded public trust in private hospitals. They demanded stronger monitoring by district health officials and regular audits to ensure patient safety.
Health Officials Promise Action
District health authorities assured the public that they would take the matter seriously. Officials said they would conduct an independent inquiry and submit a detailed report. Based on the findings, they promised action against those responsible, including suspension or cancellation of licenses if required.
The incident has once again highlighted growing concerns over medical accountability in the region. Residents hope the case will lead to stricter oversight and prevent similar tragedies in the future.
