Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the Union Budget 2026–27 as historic while addressing the nation from New Delhi. He said the budget reflects India’s growing confidence and lays a strong foundation for achieving the goal of Viksit Bharat by 2047. The Prime Minister praised Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for presenting her ninth consecutive budget and highlighted the growing role of Nari Shakti in shaping India’s future. He said the budget does not just meet today’s needs but also secures tomorrow’s aspirations.
Reform-Driven Budget With Global Ambitions
The Prime Minister said India is moving fast on a “Reform Express,” and the 2026–27 budget accelerates that journey. He stressed that trust-based governance remains central to economic planning. The budget balances fiscal discipline with growth by reducing the fiscal deficit, controlling inflation, and increasing capital expenditure. He noted that India no longer wants to remain only the fastest-growing economy. Instead, the nation aims to become the world’s third-largest economy at the earliest.
India’s image as a trusted democratic partner and a reliable global supplier continues to strengthen. Major international trade agreements reflect that trust. The budget ensures that youth, startups, and MSMEs gain maximum benefits from these global opportunities.
Push for Make in India and Sunrise Sectors
Prime Minister Modi said the budget presents an ambitious roadmap for Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat. He highlighted unprecedented support for sunrise sectors. Key initiatives include the Biopharma Shakti Mission, Semiconductor Mission 2.0, rare earth corridor development, and incentives for electronic component manufacturing. Textile sector modernisation and support for champion MSMEs aim to help small businesses expand from local markets to global platforms.
Infrastructure, Youth, and Employment Focus
The budget strengthens infrastructure through freight corridors, waterways expansion, high-speed rail, and focused development of Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities. Municipal bonds will also help cities build strong economic foundations. Calling it a Yuva Shakti Budget, the Prime Minister said it reflects youth energy, speed, and ambition. New medical hubs, allied health training, tourism promotion, gaming and audio-visual industries, and data centre incentives will generate large-scale employment.
Women, Farmers, and Balanced Growth
The Prime Minister highlighted the role of over 10 crore women linked to Self-Help Groups. The budget supports a women-led development ecosystem and plans new girls’ hostels in every district. Agriculture, dairy, and fisheries also remain priorities. Farmers involved in coconut, cashew, cocoa, and sandalwood cultivation will receive targeted support. With Bharat Vistar AI, farmers will access information in local languages, while fisheries and animal husbandry initiatives will boost rural employment.
A Budget Aligned With National Aspirations
Prime Minister Modi concluded by calling the budget futuristic, inclusive, and welfare-driven. He said it strengthens villages, empowers the poor, supports farmers, and prepares India for long-term global leadership. He congratulated Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and her team for presenting a budget that aligns national ambition with ground-level growth.
