A crucial phase of the Telangana municipal elections has concluded with the completion of the nomination and withdrawal process. Election officials confirmed that the final list of candidates is now ready, marking a major step toward polling day. With campaign activity set to intensify, authorities have shifted focus to ensuring smooth voting across the state.
Initially, candidates filed 20,313 nominations for 2,996 wards. After scrutiny, officials approved 19,694 nominations. Later, 6,701 candidates withdrew their papers. As a result, 12,993 candidates remain in the fray, according to election authorities.
Election Process Nears One-Third Completion
Officials stated that around 25 per cent of the election process is complete. Meanwhile, they have turned their attention to the most critical stage, polling. To improve voter turnout, authorities have begun detailed planning and coordination.
Therefore, officials are arranging polling staff, ballot boxes, and essential election materials. At the same time, they are strengthening police deployment to maintain law and order on polling day. These measures aim to ensure a peaceful and efficient voting process.
Polling Arrangements Across Municipal Bodies
Elections will take place in 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations across Telangana. Together, these civic bodies include 2,996 wards. The state has a total of 5,243,000 voters eligible to cast their ballots.
Among them, 2,562,000 are male voters, while 2,680,000 are female voters. In addition, 640 voters fall under the other category. Notably, women voters outnumber men in these elections. To manage voting smoothly, authorities have set up 8,203 polling stations across the state.
Campaigning Period and Polling Date Announced
Meanwhile, candidates have begun active campaigning. They can continue electioneering for six days, until 5 pm on the 9th of this month. During this period, parties and candidates are expected to reach out to voters across urban areas.
Polling will take place on the 11th, starting at 8 am. As the countdown begins, political parties have stepped up preparations. Election officials remain confident that the remaining stages will proceed without disruption.
