Tirupati marked World Cancer Day with a walkathon aimed at raising awareness about cancer prevention and early diagnosis. The Tata Cancer Swikaar Institute and the Indian Red Cross Society jointly organised the event, drawing participation from citizens and health officials.
District Collector Venkateshwar appreciated the organisers for conducting the walkathon. He stressed that cancer cases are rising steadily across the country. However, he pointed out that early detection can lead to a complete recovery in many cases.
The Collector urged people to undergo regular screening tests without delay. He explained that timely diagnosis plays a key role in saving lives and reducing treatment complications.
Venkateshwar also highlighted the availability of advanced medical facilities in Tirupati. He said institutions such as SVIMS and Swikaar offer modern diagnostic and treatment services. According to him, residents can approach these centres with confidence and get screened without fear.
Health officials reiterated that awareness programs like walkathons help break myths around cancer. They also encourage people to seek medical advice at the right time, improving survival rates and quality of life.
