Two wild elephants created panic among residents after straying into Chittoor city in the early hours of the day. Elephants that usually remain deep inside forest areas unexpectedly entered the heart of the city, leaving locals shocked and frightened. People were unsure whether the animals lost their forest route or wandered in search of food, but their sudden appearance in a densely populated area triggered fear across the neighbourhood.
The elephants moved into Santapeta, one of the busiest localities in Chittoor, at dawn. Residents who stepped out of their homes were stunned to see the massive animals walking through narrow streets. As word spread quickly, panic gripped the area. Many people ran for safety, while some climbed onto rooftops to avoid any possible danger. Streets that usually witness heavy morning movement fell silent within minutes.
Elephants are commonly spotted in agricultural fields near forest borders. However, their presence in crowded urban streets caused serious concern among residents. Fearing for their lives, people avoided coming out and shut down shops as a precaution. The sudden incident highlighted the growing conflict between wildlife movement and expanding urban areas.
After receiving information about the elephants, forest department officials rushed to the spot without delay. They began efforts to guide the animals safely back into the forest. Officials urged the public not to approach the elephants and strictly warned against taking selfies or photographs. They emphasised that disturbing the animals could provoke them and lead to dangerous situations.
Authorities continued monitoring the situation to ensure both public safety and the safe return of the elephants to their natural habitat. The incident once again raised concerns about wildlife straying into cities and the need for preventive measures in forest-border districts like Chittoor.
