Andhra Pradesh Governor Abdul Nazeer on Wednesday delivered a strong address in the Assembly, sharply criticising the previous YSRCP government while outlining the coalition government’s development roadmap. Speaking to both Houses, the Governor said that systemic governance failures emerged in the state after 2019 and claimed that development had slowed during that period.
He noted that Andhra Pradesh witnessed several key changes after state bifurcation. Despite limited resources, earlier efforts focused on long-term growth, he said. However, the change in government in 2019 disrupted that momentum. He said the voters sought a fresh direction in 2024 and elected the coalition government with a decisive mandate. He added that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, the state is now progressing across sectors.
Meanwhile, YSRCP members who attended the Assembly repeatedly interrupted the Governor’s speech. Shortly after raising slogans, they staged a walkout from the House.
Focus on Welfare and ‘Super Six’ Schemes
Highlighting welfare initiatives, the Governor said the government is implementing the “Super Six” schemes to strengthen public support systems. He stressed that development and welfare function as two pillars of the administration’s agenda. The government, he said, prioritises weaker sections and women’s empowerment.
He also pointed to the introduction of digital systems in welfare implementation to ensure transparency. Through Anna Canteens, the state operates 205 centres to provide affordable meals, and plans to expand the network soon. Under the “Talliki Vandanam” scheme, eligible beneficiaries receive structured support. Additionally, the “Annadata Sukhibhava” program provides ₹25,000 assistance to farmers.
The Governor further stated that the government supports auto drivers and fishermen with financial aid. It has also designed special action plans for tribal welfare. Through Mega DSC recruitment, authorities filled teacher posts and constable vacancies, strengthening public services.
Amaravati and Capital Development
Turning to the capital issue, Governor Nazeer alleged that the previous government weakened Amaravati in the name of the three-capital proposal. In contrast, he said the coalition government has renewed focus on building Amaravati as the permanent capital. He emphasised the “Swarna Andhra Vision 2047,” which aims to attract investments and generate employment opportunities.
The Governor said the administration works with accountability and has prioritised state reconstruction. He added that structured development policies now guide governance decisions.
Irrigation Projects as Growth Drivers
The Governor described irrigation as a game-changer for Andhra Pradesh. He highlighted the transformation of Anantapur into a horticulture hub and called the Nallamala Sagar project a prestigious initiative. The government plans to link rivers and divert Godavari floodwaters from Polavaram to drought-prone areas.
Importantly, he reaffirmed the target to complete the Polavaram project before June 2027. The government also supplies water to drought-affected regions through the Handri Neeva Sujala Sravanthi scheme. Furthermore, officials are working on linking river systems from the Vamsadhara to strengthen water security across southern India.
Push for IT and Quantum Computing
On the technology front, the Governor said Andhra Pradesh is making rapid strides in IT and quantum computing. Amaravati, he noted, has opened a new chapter with the establishment of a Quantum Computing Centre. Partnerships with leading industries are bringing global recognition to the state.
International companies, he added, now view Andhra Pradesh as a destination for investment and knowledge economy growth. By embracing advanced technologies, the government aims to expand job opportunities for youth and prepare the state for future industries.
Overall, the Governor’s address set the tone for the Assembly session, combining political criticism with an ambitious development narrative for Andhra Pradesh.
