Actor Sivaji has issued a public apology for his controversial remarks made at the Dandora pre-release event, which triggered widespread criticism on social media and within the Telugu film industry. Admitting that he made a mistake, Sivaji said he unintentionally used two inappropriate words while trying to convey a positive message.
In a video released on X (formerly Twitter), Sivaji clarified that his comments were not aimed at all actresses. He explained that he referred to specific incidents where some heroines faced discomfort in public spaces. “While sharing a good thought, I ended up using a couple of offensive words. If those words hurt anyone’s feelings, I sincerely apologise,” he said.
Sivaji stressed that he never intended to insult or demean women. “My only intention was to advise safety in public places. I respect women deeply and see them as a form of divine power. If my words hurt the women of the industry, I apologise once again from my heart,” he added.
Industry Reaction and Women’s Commission Notice
Sivaji’s remarks drew sharp reactions from several prominent personalities in the Telugu film industry. Filmmakers Nandini Reddy, Supriya Yarlagadda, Swapna Dutt, Lakshmi Manchu, and Jhansi wrote a letter to the industry association under the banner Voice of Women, expressing strong objection to his comments.
Meanwhile, the Telangana State Women’s Commission took serious note of the issue and served notices to Sivaji. The commission directed him to appear before it on the 27th of this month at 11 am.
Actor Manchu Manoj also responded to the controversy and stated that he apologises on Sivaji’s behalf, seeking to calm the situation.
What Sivaji Said at the Event
During the Dandora pre-release event, Sivaji commented on actresses’ dressing sense and glamour. He stated that beauty reflects best in traditional attire and claimed that excessive glamour attracts criticism. He cited legendary actress Savitri as an example and said glamour should have limits, remarks that sparked intense backlash online.
Following the backlash, Sivaji’s apology video has become a key talking point, with many calling for greater sensitivity and responsibility from public figures while addressing issues related to women.
