Former minister and YSRCP leader Ambati Rambabu received major relief after a local excise court granted him bail in a case related to alleged misconduct with police officials. The court also dismissed the police custody petition and allowed bail on a bond of ₹10,000 with two sureties. With this order, Rambabu is likely to be released from jail tomorrow.
The case dates back to November 12 last year, when a protest rally took place in Guntur against the alleged privatisation of government medical colleges. During the rally, police registered a case against Ambati Rambabu, accusing him of obstructing a Circle Inspector who was on duty. Authorities later issued a PT warrant in connection with the case. Three days ago, Pattabhipuram police took him into custody and produced him before the court.
Court Dismisses Custody Plea
During the hearing, the prosecution sought police custody for further investigation. However, the excise court rejected the custody petition after hearing arguments from both sides. The judge directed Ambati Rambabu to furnish two sureties of ₹10,000 each as part of the bail conditions.
Meanwhile, Rambabu had already secured bail in another case related to alleged inappropriate remarks against Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. The Guntur Special Mobile Court heard the matter and granted bail, further strengthening his legal position.
Political Reactions and Next Steps
With bail granted in both cases, the YSRCP leader is expected to walk out of Rajahmundry Central Jail soon. Party leaders described the court’s decision as a relief and expressed confidence that he will continue his political activities without legal hurdles.
However, political observers note that the developments come at a sensitive time in Andhra Pradesh politics. The cases triggered heated debates between the ruling and opposition parties. Supporters argue that the charges were politically motivated, while critics maintain that law and order must prevail regardless of political stature.
As of now, legal proceedings in the cases will continue, but Ambati Rambabu’s immediate release appears certain following the court’s orders.
