Tension gripped Guntur after a political clash escalated into violence near the residence of former minister and YSRCP leader Ambati Rambabu. The unrest followed his controversial and abusive remarks against Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, which triggered strong reactions from TDP leaders and cadres.
Trigger: Tirumala Laddu Ghee Flex Controversy
The immediate flashpoint emerged from a flex banner set up by TDP leaders in Goranthla, Guntur, highlighting alleged adulteration in Tirumala laddu ghee. The banner, placed near the NTR statue with the slogan “Mahapapam,” sparked sharp opposition from Ambati Rambabu. A day earlier, he warned that the flex must be removed or he would take action himself.
This morning, Ambati offered special prayers at the Goranthla Venkateswara Swamy temple and announced plans to visit the flex site. Meanwhile, sensing possible trouble, TDP leaders and supporters gathered in large numbers at the location. Police deployed security and advised Ambati not to proceed to the flex area to avoid confrontation.
Verbal Clash Turns Volatile
Despite police warnings, Ambati passed through the route after the temple rituals. At that point, TDP workers blocked his vehicle. As tensions rose, Ambati attempted to step out of the car, but police restrained him. In the heat of the moment, Ambati allegedly hurled highly offensive remarks at Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu.
As a result, police swiftly moved Ambati away from the scene to prevent further escalation. However, his remarks had already intensified anger among TDP supporters.
TDP Protest at Ambati’s Residence
Soon after, TDP cadres, led by Guntur West MLA Galla Madhavi, marched to Ambati Rambabu’s house in Navabharat Nagar. Notably, a large number of women activists joined the protest. They demanded an unconditional apology from Ambati and declared they would not leave until he issued one.
Meanwhile, the protest spiralled out of control. Enraged workers attacked the house, smashing window panes and damaging a parked car. The situation quickly turned tense, forcing police to rush additional forces to the area.
Provocative Statements Add Fuel
Even after learning about the growing anger, Ambati Rambabu continued to make provocative comments. He claimed his earlier abuse did not target the Chief Minister directly. Moreover, he challenged TDP leaders by saying no one, including the Chief Minister, could touch him. His remarks about Lokesh’s “Red Book” further angered party workers.
Consequently, these statements acted as the final trigger, pushing the already furious crowd to vandalise his residence.
Police Tighten Security
Following the incident, police tightened security in the area and began reviewing the sequence of events. While calm was later restored, the episode highlighted how political rhetoric can quickly spiral into violence.
For now, the situation remains under control. However, the political fallout from this clash is expected to continue in the coming days.
