YSR Congress Party leader and former minister Ambati Rambabu is facing fresh legal trouble after a court issued a Prisoner Transit (PT) warrant against him. Sattenapalli police presented him before the Guntur C41 Court today in connection with the 2023 Sankranti lucky draw lottery case.
The case relates to allegations that lottery tickets were distributed selectively during Sankranti celebrations held in Sattenapalli in 2023.
Allegations Over Lucky Draw Ticket Distribution
Janasena district president Gade Venkateswara Rao filed a complaint alleging irregularities in the lottery process. According to the complaint, organisers excluded nearly 200 pension beneficiaries while distributing lucky draw tickets to others.
Further allegations claim that the lottery tickets were sold under Ambati Rambabu’s leadership. Complainants also stated that secretariat volunteers helped sell the tickets during the event.
Based on these complaints, Sattenapalli police registered a case following court directions.
Court Intervention and Case Registration
Initially, police did not register a case after receiving complaints. However, Janasena leaders approached the sub-court seeking legal intervention. Following court orders, Sattenapalli Town Police registered a case against Ambati Rambabu on January 16, 2023.
Now, in the same lucky draw case, the court has issued a PT warrant, allowing authorities to continue further investigation while he remains in judicial custody.
Previous Bail and Fresh Legal Developments
Earlier, a court granted Ambati bail in a separate case related to protests against medical college privatisation. However, this new PT warrant may delay his release as the investigation continues.
Police produced Rambabu before the Guntur court after the issuance of the warrant. Meanwhile, visuals showed him gesturing confidently while stepping down from the police bus, signalling defiance amid the ongoing legal proceedings.
Political Reactions Likely
The development has sparked political interest, as the case involves allegations of misuse of public events and administrative support. With legal proceedings underway, attention now turns to the court’s next steps in the Sankranti lottery case.
