YSR Congress Party leader Ambati Rambabu faced police restrictions after he attempted to leave Rajamahendravaram in a rally toward Guntur. The incident took place shortly after his release from jail. Police officials halted the rally, citing prohibitory orders under Section 30.
Rambabu had stayed overnight in Rajamahendravaram following his release. This morning, he began his journey toward Guntur along with party supporters. However, police intervened and informed him that public rallies were not permitted due to restrictions in force.
Police Cite Section 30 Restrictions
According to officials, Section 30 was in effect in the area. Therefore, they denied permission for the rally. Police said the order aims to maintain public peace and avoid large gatherings without prior approval. As a result, they stopped the procession before it could move further.
Rambabu, however, argued that he had not formally called for a rally. He claimed that party workers gathered on their own to welcome him. Moreover, he insisted that he had the right to travel with supporters peacefully.
War of Words Between Leader and Police
The situation soon led to a verbal argument between Rambabu and the police officers. He criticised the authorities for what he described as unnecessary restrictions. Furthermore, he stated that he would proceed with a rally despite objections.
When police refused permission, Rambabu declared that he would undertake a padayatra to Guntur instead. He said that if he was not allowed to move in a rally, he would walk to his destination as a mark of protest.
Political Tensions Rise
The incident has added to the ongoing political tension in Andhra Pradesh. Supporters of the YSR Congress Party gathered in large numbers, expressing solidarity with their leader. Meanwhile, police maintained that they were only enforcing existing orders.
The developments in Rajamahendravaram highlight the friction between political activities and law enforcement measures. Further action will depend on how authorities and party leaders respond in the coming days.
