Police arrested former minister Ambati Rambabu late on Saturday night amid heavy tension in Guntur and shifted him to Nallapadu Police Station under tight security. Protesters attempted to attack the police vehicle while officers moved him out, forcing police to increase protection. Demonstrations by TDP cadres continued in parts of Guntur until midnight.
Despite strong resistance from protesters, police managed to transport Ambati Rambabu safely. Authorities have kept his present location confidential to prevent further unrest.
Midnight Protests Continue in Guntur
TDP activists staged protests even after the arrest, creating tense scenes across the city. Protesters gathered near key junctions and raised slogans while police worked to control the situation. Security forces remained deployed across sensitive areas to avoid fresh clashes.
Police officials stated that maintaining secrecy about Rambabu’s location was necessary to ensure law and order.
Two Cases Filed at Nallapadu Police Station
Police registered two separate cases against Ambati Rambabu at Nallapadu Police Station. Sub-Inspector Ramakrishna filed the first complaint, accusing him of obstructing police duties. District TDP president Pilli Manikya Rao filed the second complaint.
In the obstruction case, police invoked Sections 126(2) and 132 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Authorities also booked Rambabu for allegedly using abusive language against Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.
Serious Sections Invoked for Abusive Remarks
In the case related to remarks against the Chief Minister, police added Sections 126(2), 196, 352, 351(2), and 292 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Officials stated that the charges reflect the gravity of the statements and their impact on public order.
Medical Tests and Court Appearance Likely Today
Police indicated that they may take Ambati Rambabu for medical examination today before producing him in court. Officials said further legal steps would depend on the outcome of the examination and court proceedings.
The incident has further heated Andhra Pradesh’s political climate, with heightened security continuing in Guntur as authorities remain alert.
