A Village Revenue Officer was caught red-handed by Anti-Corruption Bureau officials while accepting a bribe at a village secretariat in Ananthapuram district. The incident took place at Kirikera village secretariat in Hindupuram Rural mandal, where VRO Haritha was working. A resident approached the ACB after the official allegedly demanded ₹5,000 to issue a house possession certificate.
According to the complaint, the VRO clearly asked the applicant to pay the bribe in exchange for processing the required certificate. Following this, ACB officials verified the complaint and prepared a detailed plan. As part of the operation, the complainant handed over the bribe amount as instructed by the officials.
Soon after the money was accepted, ACB officers entered the secretariat and caught VRO Haritha on the spot. The officials recovered the full bribe amount from her possession during the inspection. The operation was carried out smoothly without any disturbance, officials said.
Later, ACB authorities registered a case against the VRO under the Prevention of Corruption Act. They confirmed that a detailed investigation is currently underway to examine all aspects related to the case. Officials also stated that further legal action will be taken based on the findings.
Meanwhile, ACB officers warned government employees against indulging in corrupt practices. They stressed that strict action will be taken against anyone who misuses their position for personal gain. Officials further urged the public to report corruption and assured protection to complainants to ensure transparency in government services.
