Andhra Pradesh Cinematography Minister Kandula Durgesh on Tuesday held a key meeting with senior government officials and leading film industry representatives to discuss movie ticket pricing across the state.
During the interaction, the minister said the government would introduce a comprehensive and uniform policy on ticket prices instead of allowing frequent hikes at the time of every film release. He stressed that repeated increases were causing inconvenience to both audiences and exhibitors.
“At present, ticket prices increase every time a major film releases. This creates unnecessary confusion and public dissatisfaction,” Kandula Durgesh said. “We want to put an end to this practice by bringing a single, well-defined policy that ensures fairness.”
Balancing Industry Needs and Audience Interests
The minister clarified that the government was holding discussions to strike a balance between the needs of the film industry and the interests of moviegoers. He said ticket rates should remain reasonable while also allowing producers of big-budget films to recover costs.
Currently, both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana governments permit higher ticket prices and special premiere shows for large-scale films. However, the lack of a standard framework has led to repeated requests for approvals.
One Government Order for Ticket Pricing
Kandula Durgesh said the state government was considering issuing a single Government Order (GO) on ticket pricing to avoid repeated approvals for each release. This move, he added, would bring clarity and consistency to the system.
The minister also revealed that the meeting included discussions on artists’ remuneration, indicating that the government may examine broader cost-related issues within the film industry.
The proposed policy aims to reduce uncertainty, protect audiences from frequent price hikes, and create a transparent system for the cinema sector in Andhra Pradesh.
