A tragic incident occurred during New Year celebrations at Antarvedi Beach in Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district. A 35-year-old man lost his life after his car plunged into the sea.
Nimmakayala Sridhar (35), a resident of Indrapaleni near Kakinada, visited Antarvedi Beach with his friends to welcome the New Year. His friends were Bondada Suryakiran from Bengaluru and Nandamuri Venkatasainath Gopikrishna from Vakalapudi in rural Kakinada. The trio reached the beach on Wednesday night and spent time there until midnight.
Later, Suryakiran returned to a rented resort room to rest. Meanwhile, Sridhar and Gopikrishna continued driving along the beach. During this time, their car accidentally plunged into the sea near the Sagara Sangamam area at Annachellella Jetty.
As the vehicle began to sink, Gopikrishna reacted quickly. He opened the car door and shouted for help. Youths present on the beach noticed him and rushed to rescue him. They safely brought him to the shore.
However, Sridhar, who was driving the car, got trapped inside the vehicle. The civil and marine police immediately launched a search operation. On Thursday morning, officials retrieved the submerged car using a crane. They found Sridhar’s body inside the vehicle.
Police shifted the body to a hospital for post-mortem examination. Sakhinetipalli Sub-Inspector Durga Srinivas confirmed the incident. He said Sridhar worked for a pharmaceutical company.
The incident has cast a shadow over New Year celebrations in the region.
