Rathasaptami celebrations commenced with devotion and traditional fervour at the Sri Surya Narayana Swamy temple in Arasavalli, Srikakulam district, early on Saturday. The festival began sharply at 12:05 am, drawing devotees from across the district. Temple authorities decorated the shrine beautifully to create a festive atmosphere for the annual spiritual event.
Minister offers silk garments to deity
Agriculture Minister Kinjarapu Achchennaidu represented the state government and offered silk garments to Lord Surya along with his family members. Temple priests welcomed him with traditional honours and followed age-old customs. Soon after, the priests performed the Maha Ksheerabhishekam, which marked a key ritual of Rathasaptami at Arasavalli.
Leaders highlight temple’s significance
Ministers Vangalapudi Anitha and Kondapalli Srinivas also visited the temple and offered prayers. Achchennaidu said the Arasavalli Surya temple remained a source of pride for Srikakulam district. He stated that officials made extensive arrangements as nearly two lakh devotees were expected during the festival days.
Union Minister Rammohan Naidu described the temple as a spiritual identity of the region. He said the state government officially organised the Rathasaptami celebrations for seven days. He thanked Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for ensuring full support and coordination.
Heavy inflow of devotees continues
Devotees arrived in large numbers from early morning hours to seek the blessings of Lord Surya. Temple officials confirmed that devotees could have ‘Nija Roopa’ darshan until 4 pm. Special alankara sevas will continue from 4 pm until midnight.
The district administration strengthened security, medical facilities, and queue systems to ensure smooth darshan. With faith guiding the celebrations, Arasavalli continues to witness a steady flow of devotees during Rathasaptami.
