The Assam Government has agreed to allot 25 acres of land in Guwahati for the construction of a Sri Venkateswara Swamy Divya Kshetram, strengthening the spiritual presence of TTD in Northeast India. This decision enhances the earlier proposal of 10.8 acres.
The move follows coordinated efforts between the Chief Ministers of Assam and Andhra Pradesh. Their discussions focused on expanding religious infrastructure and promoting Sanatana Dharma nationwide.
AP CM’s Role in Expanding the Proposal
TTD Trust Board Chairman B.R. Naidu stated that Assam had earlier approved 10.8 acres in the Kamrup Metropolitan district. Later, administrators of an existing Sri Balaji temple at Garchuk raised concerns about the impact of another temple nearby.
As a result, Assam officials suggested alternative locations such as Silchar or Dibrugarh. These cities are among the fastest-growing urban centres in the state.
Guwahati Identified as the Ideal Location
After reviewing the matter, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu wrote to Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on December 18. He stressed that Guwahati serves as the primary hub for the entire Northeast region.
Drawing a comparison, the AP CM highlighted that Andhra Pradesh had allocated 25 acres in Amaravati for a Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple. He urged Assam to consider a similar allotment in its capital city.
The letter also proposed developing a full-fledged Divya Kshetram with pilgrim amenities and regular Annadanam services. Additionally, the AP CM requested financial support for infrastructure development.
Assam CM Responds Positively
Accepting the recommendation, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma accorded in-principle approval for the allotment of 25 acres in Guwahati. The Assam Government also agreed to extend necessary financial assistance for development activities.
This approval paves the way for establishing the first TTD-managed Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple in Northeast India.
TTD Expresses Gratitude
TTD Chairman B.R. Naidu thanked both Chief Ministers for resolving the issue amicably. He assured that the Trust Board would work closely with the Assam Government to complete formalities and begin construction soon.
The proposed Divya Kshetram is expected to boost spiritual tourism and strengthen religious outreach across the Northeast.
