Umaria (Madhya Pradesh): Panic gripped a village near the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve on Monday after a tiger entered the habitation, attacked a young man, and later walked into a house, where it reportedly lay on a bed. The incident triggered fear among villagers, who climbed onto rooftops and stayed alert for several hours.
Tiger Strays from Buffer Zone into Village
According to officials, the tiger wandered into the village from the Panpatha buffer zone. Villagers first spotted the animal in nearby fields around 10 am. As the tiger moved closer to homes by noon, residents immediately alerted the forest department.
However, before officials could reach the spot, the tiger entered the village lanes. In an attempt to push it back toward the forest, some villagers used sticks. At that moment, the tiger suddenly attacked a youth identified as Gopal Kol.
Youth Seriously Injured in Tiger Attack
The tiger injured Gopal Kol on his leg, leaving him in a serious condition. Villagers rushed him to Barhi Hospital for first aid. Later, doctors shifted him to Katni for advanced treatment as his condition worsened.
Tiger Enters House, Lies on Bed
After the attack, the tiger moved into the house of Durga Prasad Dwivedi, further increasing panic in the area. Shockingly, villagers saw the animal sitting on a bed inside the house, forcing residents to remain on rooftops for safety.
Forest Department Rescues Tiger After 8 Hours
Meanwhile, the Panpatha Buffer Zone Rescue Team, along with veterinary doctors, reached the village and launched a rescue operation. After nearly eight hours of careful effort, officials successfully tranquilised the tiger. They then safely captured the animal and relocated it back into the forest.
Forest officials said the situation is now under control. They also appealed to villagers living near forest areas to avoid confronting wild animals directly and to immediately inform authorities in such situations.
