A shocking incident has come to light in Bengaluru, where a young software engineer died by suicide after reportedly believing an astrologer’s prediction about her early death.
The incident occurred in the Bagalakunte MEI Layout area. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation.
Young Engineer Reportedly Feared Early Death
The deceased, identified as Vidya Jyothi, worked as a software engineer at a reputed private company. She had recently married a man from the Kodagu region after a love relationship, according to local sources.
However, family members told police that she had recently consulted an astrologer. During that consultation, the astrologer allegedly told her that she would not live long and might die soon.
He also reportedly advised her to perform special prayers for nine days. On the final day, she was told to offer her mangalsutra (wedding chain) to a goddess as part of the ritual.
Nine Days of Rituals
According to preliminary reports, Vidyajyothi followed the astrologer’s instructions closely. She performed prayers at home for nine consecutive days.
Family members said she appeared tense and anxious during this period. However, they did not expect the situation to take such a tragic turn.
On the final day of the ritual, she prepared to offer her mangalsutra as instructed. Before doing so, she went into her room and locked the door from inside.
Family Breaks Open Door
When she did not come out for a long time, her family members grew suspicious. They knocked on the door repeatedly. However, she did not respond.
Fearing something was wrong, they broke open the door.
Inside, they found her hanging from the ceiling fan. The family members were shocked by the sight.
They immediately informed the police.
Police Investigation Underway
Police reached the spot soon after receiving information. They took the body into custody and shifted it to a nearby hospital for post-mortem examination.
Officials have registered a case and are investigating all aspects of the incident, including the role of the astrologer.
Authorities are also speaking to family members and collecting further evidence to understand the exact sequence of events.
Growing Concern Over Superstition
This tragic incident has once again raised concerns about the psychological impact of fear-based predictions and blind belief in superstition.
Experts say that emotionally vulnerable individuals can develop severe anxiety if they strongly believe in such predictions. In extreme cases, fear can influence decisions in dangerous ways.
Mental health professionals stress the importance of seeking medical and psychological help when dealing with anxiety, stress, or disturbing thoughts.
A Reminder About Mental Health Support
Incidents like this highlight the need for awareness about mental health and emotional well-being.
If you or someone you know is struggling with distressing thoughts, it is important to seek help immediately from trusted family members, friends, or qualified mental health professionals. Timely support can save lives.
