Andhra Pradesh is facing a fresh wave of bird flu. In Chittoor district’s Sadum Mandal, poultry farms in Puttavari Palli, Ammagaripalli, and Kambhamvari Palli reported massive chicken deaths over the past week. Local veterinary officials tested the birds and confirmed the presence of the bird flu virus. About 28,000 chickens died across the three farms, prompting authorities to act immediately to stop the virus from spreading further.
Officials are now culling the surviving birds. They are digging large pits outside the villages with JCB machines and burying the infected birds using scientific methods. Authorities have blocked public entry to these areas to prevent exposure.
Bird flu is not new to the state. Previous outbreaks in Godavari districts, Nellore, and Kosta districts killed hundreds of thousands of chickens, severely affecting the poultry industry. Health officials warn that humans can catch the virus. They advise poultry farm owners to strengthen biosecurity measures and to report any unusual bird deaths immediately.
Residents near the affected villages should take extra precautions when handling or consuming eggs and poultry meat. Experts suggest avoiding chicken for a few days to reduce health risks. Authorities continue monitoring the situation closely to prevent further spread.
