Police in the undivided Anantapur district took strict action over animal sacrifice incidents during YSR Congress Party chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s birthday celebrations. Officers registered cases against party workers who performed animal sacrifices in public places.
According to police, the incidents occurred in Bhanukota village of the Raptadu constituency and Brahmasamudram in the Kalyandurg constituency. Party workers allegedly used hunting sickles to sacrifice goats in open areas.
Officials said the acts created fear among the public and fueled political tension. Police teams from Anantapur and Sri Sathya Sai districts reached the locations soon after receiving complaints.
Police conducted counselling sessions for the accused as an immediate step. In Brahmasamudram, officers paraded those involved on the main road and issued strong warnings. In Bhanukota, police held similar counselling to prevent repeat incidents.
Authorities booked cases under animal welfare laws and other relevant sections. Police warned that they would take stricter action if such acts recur.
Officials also said they have increased surveillance across the district. They aim to maintain public order and prevent activities that disturb peace.
