Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will visit Markapuram district tomorrow to launch modernisation works at the Veligonda Project feeder canal. He will lay the foundation stone at the project site and address local farmers and officials. The government expects the project to improve irrigation and drinking water supply across the region.

Officials said the works will strengthen canal walls and improve water flow. They believe the upgrade will help thousands of acres receive steady irrigation. In addition, many villages may see relief from drinking water shortages.

Why the Veligonda Project Matters

The feeder canal is part of the larger Veligonda Project. The project plays a key role in supporting farmers in drought-prone areas. When water reaches fields on time, crop yields improve. Farmers can also plan their seasons with more confidence.

For years, irregular rainfall has troubled this region. Many farmers depend fully on canal water. Therefore, better water management can directly boost rural income. Officials say the new works aim to reduce water loss and increase supply efficiency.

First Visit After District Formation

This tour marks the Chief Minister’s first visit to Markapuram after it became a separate district. As a result, local leaders and residents are eager to welcome him. Farmers’ groups have expressed hope that the visit will bring more development projects.

Moreover, public representatives expect new announcements during the tour. They see this visit as a positive signal for the district’s future. Many believe it could speed up pending infrastructure works.

Focus on Irrigation and Drinking Water

The government has placed irrigation at the centre of its rural strategy. Strong water systems help both farming and daily life. With improved canals, farmers can grow crops without fear of sudden shortages. At the same time, villages may receive safer drinking water.

Overall, N Chandrababu Naidu’s visit is likely to boost confidence in Markapuram. If the works move forward on schedule, the district could witness steady agricultural growth and better living conditions in the coming years.
