Hyderabad Police have taken a major step in cybercrime control by launching ‘C-Mitra’, the country’s first virtual cybercrime helpdesk. This innovative initiative allows victims to register complaints and seek help without visiting a police station, offering faster and more transparent justice.
Within just 10 days of its launch, C-Mitra helped register over 100 FIRs, creating a national record. More importantly, the initiative restored confidence among cybercrime victims by offering quick responses and clear guidance.
Since its introduction, the virtual helpdesk has assisted more than 1,000 cybercrime victims through direct phone calls. On average, the team handles nearly 100 calls every day, patiently listening to complaints and guiding victims toward immediate solutions. In addition, officials respond promptly to cases reported through the 1930 cyber helpline and the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.
No Police Station Visit Required
One of the key highlights of C-Mitra is the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to draft legal complaints accurately. As a result, victims no longer need to travel to police stations. Instead, officials prepare FIR drafts digitally and register them after verification.
Once the FIR is registered, the system sends a copy directly to the victim’s mobile phone, ensuring transparency and trust. This process not only saves time but also reduces stress for victims already facing financial and emotional trauma.
Dedicated Team Working Round the Clock
To ensure uninterrupted service, Hyderabad Police formed a special team of 24 members working in two shifts. The team operates continuously to assist cybercrime victims without delay.
Notably, women constables play a crucial role in this initiative. They provide emotional support and reassurance, especially to vulnerable victims. Their compassionate approach has earned praise from the public and senior officials alike.
A Model for the Nation
As cybercrime cases rise rapidly across the country, initiatives like C-Mitra offer real relief to the public. By combining technology with human sensitivity, Hyderabad Police have shown how digital tools can strengthen public service.
Experts believe this virtual helpdesk could soon expand further and serve as a model for other states. In the fight against cybercrime, Hyderabad Police have clearly taken the lead by making justice more accessible, faster, and citizen-friendly.
