Women and Girls Most Affected
New Delhi – Police data reveals that more than 500 women and girls went missing in Delhi during the first 15 days of 2026. Out of 807 missing persons reported between January 1 and 15, 509 were women and girls. This accounts for nearly two-thirds of all cases.
Daily Average and Current Status
The numbers indicate that an average of 54 people went missing each day. Of the 807 individuals, 235 have been traced so far. However, 572 people remain unaccounted for, according to police records.
Child Safety Concerns
Minors represented 191 of the total missing cases, raising serious concerns over child safety. Girls made up a large share, with 146 missing compared to 45 boys. Teenagers formed the majority, with 169 adolescents reported missing. Among them, 138 were girls, and 31 were boys. Alarmingly, nearly 71 per cent of these teenage cases remain unresolved.
Younger Children Also Missing
In the 8 to 12 age group, 13 children went missing, including eight boys and five girls. Additionally, nine children under eight were reported missing. Only six children from these younger age groups have been traced so far.
Adults Continue to Represent Largest Category
Adults accounted for 616 missing persons during this period, including 363 women and 253 men. Police located 181 adults, while 435 cases remain pending. These figures highlight the urgent need for enhanced safety measures in the city.
Long-Term Trends in Delhi
These latest figures reflect a broader, long-term trend. In 2025 alone, Delhi recorded over 24,500 missing persons cases, with women making up more than 60 per cent. A decade-long analysis shows that nearly 2.3 lakh people have gone missing in the city over the past 10 years, with around 52,000 cases still unresolved.
