As New Year celebrations approach, Delhi Police launched a massive late-night crackdown to maintain law and order in the national capital. Under ‘Operation Aaghat 3.0’, police carried out extensive raids across the South-East district of Delhi, resulting in hundreds of arrests and detentions in a single night.
Massive Crackdown Ahead of New Year
The operation took place on Friday night as part of heightened security measures ahead of New Year festivities. Police teams conducted simultaneous raids, vehicle checks, and surveillance operations in crime-prone areas based on local intelligence inputs.
South-East Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Hemant Tiwari shared details of the operation with the media on Saturday.
285 Arrested, Over 500 Detained
According to DCP Tiwari, police arrested 285 people under various laws, including the Excise Act, NDPS Act, and Gambling Act. In addition, authorities detained 504 individuals as a precautionary measure to prevent potential law-and-order issues.
Police also identified 116 individuals with previous criminal records during the operation.
Firearms, Liquor, Ganja Seized
During the raids, police recovered a large cache of illegal items. These included 21 pistols, 20 live cartridges, and 27 knives. Officials also seized 12,258 quarters of illegal liquor and 6.01 kilograms of ganja.
Further, police recovered ₹2,30,990 in cash, 310 mobile phones, 231 two-wheelers, and one four-wheeler from suspects involved in gambling and other illegal activities. The operation also led to the arrest of 10 property offenders and five auto-lifters.
Police Emphasise Public Safety
DCP Hemant Tiwari stated that Operation Aaghat 3.0 aimed to ensure public safety and prevent crimes during the festive season. He added that similar operations would continue in the coming days, with public security remaining the top priority.
