Amid rising tensions between India and Bangladesh, Russia has issued a key advisory calling for restraint and dialogue. Russia’s Ambassador to Bangladesh, Alexander Grigoryevich Khozin, urged Dhaka to improve relations with India at the earliest and avoid hostility that could destabilize the region.

Speaking at an event in Dhaka, Ambassador Khozin reminded Bangladesh of India’s crucial role in its independence. He said Bangladesh should not forget that India’s support in 1971 played a decisive role in the country gaining freedom. He stressed that easing tensions with India would benefit both nations and contribute to regional stability in Asia.

Khozin noted that recent political developments and internal unrest have widened the gap between New Delhi and Dhaka. He cautioned that growing mistrust and hostility could harm long-term interests. “The sooner tensions reduce, the better it will be for both countries,” he said, adding that cooperation among India, Bangladesh, and Russia could drive shared development.

The Russian envoy also clarified that Moscow does not intend to interfere in the bilateral affairs of India and Bangladesh. However, he emphasized that Russia does not want the current tensions to escalate further. If needed, he said, Russia stands ready to assist efforts aimed at reducing friction between the two neighbors.

Russia believes that improved India–Bangladesh ties will strengthen peace and stability across the region, Khozin added, calling on both sides to move past hostility and work toward constructive engagement.
