Renowned oncologist Dr Nori Dattatreyudu expressed deep happiness after receiving the Padma Bhushan from the Government of India. Although he received many international awards earlier, this honour from his own country gave him the greatest satisfaction. He said the recognition represents respect for his services, innovations, and research in cancer care.
Instead of viewing the award as a milestone, Dr Nori described it as a responsibility. He stated that the Padma Bhushan motivates him to strengthen the fight against cancer across India. In particular, he wants to focus on Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in the coming years.
Meanwhile, Dr Nori revealed that Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu accepted the cancer-control roadmap he proposed. As a result, he now carries the responsibility of implementing it on the ground. He believes structured planning and execution can save countless lives.
At the same time, Dr Nori highlighted the importance of awareness in preventing cancer growth. He explained that several cancers can be controlled if people understand early symptoms and seek timely treatment. Therefore, public education remains a key priority in his mission.
Dr Nori also spoke emotionally about his connection to the Telugu states. He recalled his early struggles and thanked both Chief Ministers for allowing him to serve the land where he once cycled and pulled rickshaws. Serving his people, he said, gives his work deeper meaning.
Looking ahead, Dr Nori expressed confidence that certain cancers can be eradicated within six to seven years. However, he stressed that this goal requires cooperation from governments, doctors, and citizens. Encouragement from the Central Government, he added, has strengthened his determination to work with even greater dedication.
